Mindful Mosaics- Week 2

Image
Today we had our second session of Mindful Mosaics. Today's class focused on adding color with paint to the circles the class traced in week one. Susan discussed the colors red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. To further the discussion of these colors we looked at different foods that corresponded with each color. She finished up the lesson by reading a Dr. Seuss book. Each friend was able to paint with varying shades of the color they chose, to add a pop of color to their project. While some friends were painting, others were playing with some soft and fussy yarn, which they really enjoyed throwing in the air! What fun exploration! Can't wait to see how they add onto their projects next week.

Mindful Mosaics Day-1!

The focus this week is a circle! First, we formed a line to create a train. Then we came together to form a circle within our class! Looking at the snow globe was a lot of fun! The class was able to identify circles among our classroom space.  Watching Tina trace varying size circles to demonstrate to the the class so we could start our activity! Identifying the colors of the rainbow within our art project.  Henry noticed you could roll the crayons on their side and they'd work to color on the paper! Friends joined in on this discovery.  We worked on tracing circles to start our 6 week mindful mosaic session. Each week we will add onto our projects. Can't wait to see what our class creates. Day one was a lot of fun! We worked on tracing and coloring as a group to add this artwork to our classroom.

Block and color matching

Image
During morning meeting, each friend was given a colored block to match with the corresponding construction paper. Each friend was called on and they would show/ tell the class what color block they had before they matched it with the paper. After everyone had a turn we counted how many blocks each color had. The second time we did the activity, instead of calling each friend up, one at a time, I asked friends to come up when they had the corresponding block to the color I was saying. Everyone did a great job following directions and identifying the color of the block they were given.

Snow Fun!

Animal balancing

Morning meeting story time! In this book it talked about our five senses. As a group we talked about which body part was associated with that sense and what it was used for. "We use our ears to hear!" Great work friends. There's a bird on your belly! Don't let it drop Ellie! Halia balancing her zebra! Dalia focused on keeping her bear on her belly. During morning meeting we practiced taking calming breaths as to not knock our animals off our bellies! Friends focused on balancing their animals as they breathed in and out. Some friends took smaller breaths, while others took bigger ones to push out their stomachs! We then talked about the animal we had and showed our friends! Friends thought it was pretty funny trying to balance the animals!
